A weekend in Windsor with MGallery

Although I moved to London more than 5 years ago, I have barely explored other cities in the country – shame on me! -, so when MGallery invited me to spend the weekend at the Castle Hotel Windsor, one of their 90 unique addresses around the world, to celebrate their Inspired by Her  campaign I had to say yes and I wasn’t disappointed!

Let me tell you all about it!

The Charming Castle Hotel Windsor – MGallery

The Castle Hotel Windsor, part of the MGallery Collection, is an enchanting boutique hotel full of history. It dates back to the 16th century and was very popular during the Victoria era – and its rich heritage is visible through the decor, artwork and architecture.

The Hotel, which overlooks the Windsor Castle, is one of the oldest inns in Windsor, and after many years of surviving many historical events, ownership changes and even a demolition, the Castle Hotel has returned to its original glory under the management of Accor and, with MGallery, it has the everything to make a mark on history once again.

Once we arrived to this unique hotel we couldn’t help noticing how well the stylish furniture blended with all the historic elements across the rooms, leisure areas, reception and restaurant – you can even find the chamber bells that were originally sited in the first floor landing of the hotel.

After checking in we were directed to our suite named after John Charter, one of the royal warrant holders to be associated with the Castle Hotel during its 500 years of rich History. The suite, composed by a bedroom, living room and bathroom (with shower and bathtub – BIG plus), overlooked the main street, where we could see through the windows the quirky buildings and lively people enjoying the town. The room with its soft tones, comfy bed and sofa was perfect to relax during this weekend getaway!

After a day of exploring Windsor – I will tell you more about that in a bit -, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, which throughout its many years of history has delighted diners with delicious food including, once upon a time, the Duke of Wellington after his victory at the Battle of Waterloo! Fast forwarding to the modern days, the Marco Pierre White Restaurant at Castle Hotel has also delighted us with a fantastic dinner with fresh and locally source ingredients and a creative take on classic British food. Do I really need to say that we felt like royalty after such an exquisite service?

Inspired by Her

Although I love to travel with my boyfriend and even by myself, I also love to travel with friends and this weekend getaway in Windsor was perfect for that, a girls trip! During our stay, my friend Teresa and I were introduced to MGallery Campaign: Inspired by Her. With this campaign, MGallery is celebrating women, by making them feel welcome in a whole new way. Inspired by Her is dedicated to offer female travellers services, products and experiences focused on our wellbeing, that allow us to have a better and more relaxed stay at their hotels.

Not only we can enjoy the exceptional room service, a concierge, super-fast and free wi-fi and delicious bites and cocktails at the bar, we are also pampered with some extras. Who doesn’t love beauty creams, gorgeous nail polishes and delicious smelling candles? I do, and I they make me happy! Who doesn’t love a hotel room with fluffy bathrobes and slippers, fashion & lifestyle magazines and a big tv screen to watch a good movie? I most certainly do! And if travelling light sounds like a dream to you, I have good news, because you can find available at the reception those products that most of the times we don’t bring with us in our trips, like hair straightener, clothes brush, nail polish remover, manicure set, etc…all these little – big – things that makes us feel at home!

Inspired by Her is all this and more, it’s about bringing a smile to our faces!

After a wonderful night of sleep we enjoyed a gorgeous breakfast in bed, everything we needed to start our day the right way, followed by one last walk in town! It was a lovely stay, but our pampering was not over yet, we couldn’t leave without trying the Ladies Afternoon Tea, which will run throughout the month of March, covering International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day! If I had to describe our stay with MGallery by Sofitel in one word I would say: SUPERB!

Windsor, a picturesque and historic town

The first thing we decided to visit was the Windsor Castle as it is, obviously, a must – not only famous for its grandiosity and centuries of history, but also for being one of the residences of the Queen and, more recently, due to two very famous Royal Weddings that made the news around the world.

Once we arrived to the entrance, there was a massive queue outside, which was not surprising as this official residence of Her Majesty the Queen is extremely popular, especially on weekends. Thankfully we bought our tickets online in advance and we didn’t have to wait in the queue – I highly recommend you to do the same! I’ll leave the link for the Windsor Castle online ticket office here – Visit Windsor Castle

Unfortunately we are not allowed to take pictures inside the Castle, but I can definitely tell you that it’s very worth the visit, the majestic and elaborate rooms, the furniture and all the history are extraordinary – I couldn’t stop feeling amazed!! I was happy to know we could take pictures of the gardens and the outside of beautiful buildings, especially the St George’s Chapel, a true piece of art, and of course, I had to take a picture of the guard, it’s a classic! I also couldn’t help myself from buying a souvenir from one of the shops – am I the only one?

After visiting the Windsor Castle we went for a walk and we not only found the very famous Crooked House, but also little streets of cobbles – part of the medieval part of Windsor.  We also found plenty of places to eat and to do a bit of shopping around the Castle, High Street and the Central Station. Since the sun was out, we took the opportunity to take a walk along the Long Walk and we even crossed the bridge to check where Eton College is!

We had a really fun and relaxed weekend, and thanks to MGallery, two very happy women left Windsor eager to visit this quaint town again as soon as possible!

Have you ever been to Windsor? Are you thinking of visiting?
